Bonim Travel Program- Costa Rica- 2010

The Bonim Leadership and Travel Program is a recreational, educational and cultural experience, building character and social skills along with a strong Jewish identity. Camp Laurelwood’s popular Bonim program combines community service, counselor training and leadership skills for campers entering 10th grade.

This year campers will enter camp for just a few days in time to prepare for a trip of a lifetime. They will head off to Costa Rica where they will be spending 18 glorious days filled with a variety of activities. A description of the trip can be seen below. Upon the return to camp, there will be development/leadership sessions for them to be involved in. For those campers who choose to stay for Session 2 – the Session will be broken up into Leadership, counselor training, team building, community service and an opportunity for them to become CPR, First Aid and Lifeguarding certified. Campers may enroll in either session or for the full season.

All campers who successfully demonstrate leadership skills and positive behavior will be invited back for the summer 2011 as staff, to be part of the Camp Laurelwood Junior Counselor program.

Day Camp

Laurelwood Day camp, from 9 AM to 4 PM, is offered to Connecticut residents with children entering grades K-6th grade. Parents provide their own transportation. Entering 2nd and 3rd graders will have the opportunity to try our overnight camp during our Taste of Laurelwood weekends.

Our day campers enjoy all of Laurelwood’s facilities and programs throughout our 140 acre campus. They will learn new skills at swimming lessons and have fun at free swim in one of our two pools. Day campers take part in boating, low ropes elements, tennis, soccer, volleyball and softball instruction. The playscape is a popular activity, and they also participate in drama, nature, crafts, music, Israeli culture and special day events.

Day Camper to staff ratio is 1:5 with boys and girls grouped together by ages and gender. Campers enjoy a healthy kosher lunch each day and experience a “Day Camp Shabbat” with homemade challah each Friday. Laurelwood Day Camp is licensed by the State of Connecticut and the American Camping Association.
