Meet Laurelwood's New Executive Director!
The Board of Directors of Camp Laurelwood is pleased to welcome James Greene as the ninth Executive Director in the Jewish overnight camp’s 83-year history. Greene arrives from the Springfield, Massachusetts Jewish Community Center, where he served as Assistant Executive Director.
He is a highly regarded and passionate public advocate for Jewish causes and organizations whose extensive experience as a wilderness guide will come in handy as he oversees the 140 wooded acres of the camp’s North Madison location. Greene is a Reconstructionist Rabbi who has written numerous columns and opinion articles for various area newspapers.
“The history and spirit of Camp Laurelwood drew me to this position, and I’m looking forward to working with the outstanding staff and community, to grow and enhance the only Jewish overnight summer camp in the state,” said Greene. “With the 2020 season coming up quickly, I’m ready to get things off to a great start.”
Ryan Loss, President of the Camp Laurelwood Board of Directors, noted that “James was hired after a global search which included candidates from as far away as California and Israel. His experience across the range of critical skills required for leading a Jewish non-profit organization will help us expand our program and offer a Jewish camping experience that positively changes lives every summer.”
Louis Lasko, who is now in his fourth year at Camp Laurelwood, will be promoted from Assistant Director to Camp Director, reporting to James Greene. The camp will soon be hosting a welcome event for the entire CLW community to meet James Greene and his family. Details will be released when the date is finalized.
Camp Laurelwood is the only Jewish overnight camp in Connecticut. Founded in 1937, it provides a wide range of programs and activities for children ages 7 through 15. Camp Laurelwood has shaped the lives of thousands of campers and staff members through the development of life-long memories and friendships. The camp offers scholarships to children whose families are unable to afford a summer camp experience.
Please join us as we welcome Rabbi James Greene and his family to the CLW community!
Thank you,
Your Camp Laurelwood Board of Directors
